I just got back from meeting with our design team. I had to take a video to show you my favorite label design. I’ll post the digital pictures of the label design over the next couple of days.
I am a little late in posting this video but I wanted to give you all an update on what we did this week and what is coming up next week.
~ Enjoy
I’ve been making sangria for many years. I can’t tell you that I have the best sangria recipe but I can tell you that the “best sangria” or “best sangria recipe” you’ll ever experience will be unexpected.
I’ve found that many times when you take your own recipe and experiment with crazy ingredients you end up with something enjoyable and different. Something you need that change of pace.
A group of us once made a very strong sangria using Black Haus, which has a similar taste to Jagermeister (www.jager.com). As we proceeded to add half a bottle of this strong, knock you on your backside and forget what happened the night before liquor; we were surprised how well it blended with the wine and fruit juices. It sure was a fun night… though we were all hurting the next day.
The morale of this story is… Play with your sangria!

Recently I’ve had many people ask me why I have sangria recipes posted on our site. People think that since we are looking to sell sangria that providing recipes would defeat that purpose.
Honestly, we plan to keep adding to our sangria recipe list. We enjoy experimenting with recipes. In addition we have noticed that people have found our site because of the recipes. In addition to sangria recipes we plan to expand the list and provide drink recipes as well. Everyone who is part of Senor Sangria loves to entertain and has their special drink recipes.
Feel free to click “Sangria Recipes” from the menu bar above and make your own sangria tonight!
This past week was another busy one. Most notably we received our 1st iteration at the label design for our sangria bottles. It was great to see the passion and feedback every displayed as they left comments regarding each of the designs.
We’ve begun to summarize the feedback and will be delivering it with our own thoughts to the design team later this week. We’ll receive the next iteration from them within the next couple of weeks and we’ll poll our sangria community one more time.
Our competitors must be nervous as they read our blog. The clock is ticking before we start to take away from their market share. (I doubt we have any competitors reading our blog)
In addition to meeting up with the designers this week we are going to be pounding the pavement and meeting up with more retailers. Our goal is to lock in about 50 retailers who are interested in our product before we go into production. This will take a lot of effort but we feel fairly confident we’ll be able to pull it off.
It also looks like we’ll be finalizing a decision on our office space. This is a huge step for us and one that is needed for us to receive our wine wholesale license.
I’m going to keep this update fairly short today but I will leave you with a question.
———— What is your favorite type of “Sangria Pitcher”? ————
My answer: A full one! Below is a picture of a great looking “sangria pitcher”. A good friend took a picture of it. Notice that sexy little bottle of sangria strategically placed next to the pitcher. Brian, thanks for the picture. You did a great job of making it look very tasty.

It’s simple:

Hey all, I got home today after visiting our design team. They delivered concepts for our bottled sangria label. I thought I’d take a quick video and give you a little taste of what they look like. I purposely didn’t zoom in too close. This is just more of a tease as we figure out the best way to present the concepts.
The design team did a great job of capturing our passion and energy in the concepts. They surprised me by the shear number of concepts they delivered. You can tell they put a lot of thought into each design.
Slowly but surely we are changing the world of sangria.
Recently I’ve gotten many questions from people asking what should I serve my sangria in when throwing a party.
We’ve had lots of opportunity to make sangria for parties. We’ve tried many different containers. Below are a few that we think are the best.
1) For large quantities of sangria we recommend the following:

The container comes in multiple sizes. Of course we bought the largest. We cut out a notch at the top to let us hook a ladle on and still keep the lid closed. The ladle is handy for fishing out the tastes pieces of fruit. Now keep in mind we wouldn’t use this for a formal gathering or any sort of fancy party. This would be used for your average backyard BBQ.
You can buy it at the Container Store: Click Here |
2) For a normal quantity of sangria we recommend the following

These containers are real usefully to lug around but it are not ideal for fishing out the fruit. I normally don’t put fruit into these containers. If I use these containers I’ll stick the fruit into a wide mouth plastic jar where you can spoon the fruit from.

3) A more sophisticated serving container

Now this is a clean and stylish way to present and server a good amount of sangria.

I have to take a quick minute and talk about our challenge with ice. We’ve been pounding the pavement the last couple of weeks meeting up with local wine shops and other retailers. You would think that our toughest challenge would be getting the retailers to like our product but in fact it is the ice.
There have been a few days where it has been very hot (high 90’s). We need to carry ice around with us so that we can serve our sangria but with these high temperatures the ice melts quickly. I had one instance where I was pouring out the ice and only water came out for the container. That was funny and it sure broke the ice (no pun intended) with the retailer we were meeting with.
Over the past couple of weeks we’ve been pounding the pavement meeting with many wine & liquor retailers. Every time we walk in the door, people look at us with a strange expression. They seem a bit perplexed on how sangria in a bottle can taste good. Their body expression is tense almost as if they are going to drink something bad.
Then they take a sip and their whole expression changes. They become relaxed and smile, at that moment they realize the mission that we are on. Every time I see that smile I get goose bumps. It truly makes me feel like we are onto something big.
